Honk your horns, Cleveland. The Pride Ride will return in 2022, this year in October.

Pride Ride will hit the streets of Cleveland again on Saturday, October 8, 2022. Due to the onset of COVID-19, Pride in the CLE was reimagined in 2020 as a virtual program and socially distanced Pride Ride. The Ride, which consists of community members decorating their cars and caravanning through Cleveland neighborhoods surrounding the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland in the Gordon Square Arts District, continued in 2021, seeing a growth in size and popularity.

The move to October is one of both logistical and purposeful reasoning. To ensure the Pride Ride is given the proper attention to detail as well as planning for continued growth in size, the Pride in the CLE team determined to push the event to October so as not to take away from development capacity for the return of in-person Pride this June.

“We’re very excited to expand our city wide events beyond the normal pride season in June,” says Kenyon Farrow, a member of the board of directors of the LGBT Center of Greater Cleveland. “We hope that members of the LGBTQ+ community and our allies, families and friends will join us for the Pride Ride and Pride in the CLE this year.”

The month of October is also recognized officially as LGBTQ+ History Month and National Coming Out Day is celebrated on October 11. Additionally, 2022 will mark the 14th LGBTQ+ Heritage Day Awards, a day of recognition for individuals who have made significant contributions to the vitality and betterment of Cleveland’s LGBTQ+ community. This annual celebration is presented by both The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland and the City of Cleveland. The move of Pride Ride to October also keeps with the Pride in the CLE philosophy that Pride is a movement, not just a moment.

“October is nearly as important a month as June for the LGBTQ+ community,” said Farrow. “We’re very happy to be providing programs that both commemorate our histories of struggle but also remember that we still have a ways to go to achieve true justice for all LGBTQ+ people in Ohio and the nation.” 🔥
