On Friday, March 11th, from 1:00-1:20 PM EST, queer youth from across Ohio will walk out of their schools to protest the anti queer youth legislative attack currently happening all across the United States.

The walkout is taking place with queer youth participation from all over the country and is organized by Queer Youth Assemble, a queer youth-led organization dedicated to serving queer youth under 25 in the United States. Event organizers have said that Friday is slated to be the largest queer youth-led walkout in history.

“All across the United States, queer youth are being attacked for nothing more than being themselves,” said Queer Youth Assemble event organizers. “Recent attacks such as Florida’s ‘don’t say gay’ bill and the Texas directive to consider trans affirming healthcare as child abuse make one thing clear: we must take action into our own hands.”

LGBTQ+ leaders here in Ohio were quick to voice their support of this youth-led action.

Kaleidoscope Youth Center, both centers and celebrates the collective power of queer youth and young adults,” said Erin Upchurch, executive director of Kaleidoscope. “Our role as an organization and adult allies is to resource their agency, amplify their voices; and to absolutely be available for respite, rest, and care. On Friday, March 11, 2022 we will stand in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ young people from across the nation in the 100% queer youth led school walk out in protest of the many anti queer youth attacks in the United States.” 🔥
