Rock Hudson’s life and lie take to an Ohio stage in “Starmaker”

Evolution Theatre Company launches their 2024 season with a bold new play about classic old Hollywood.

Ohio audiences will soon witness the riveting story of the relationship between Rock Hudson and his agent, Henry Willson.

For their 2024 season opener, Evolution Theatre Company will be presenting the midwest premiere of “Starmaker” on May 23 through June 1 at the Abbey Theater of Dublin.

Reviewed as “touching, funny yet ultimately tragic,” the 2018 play by Michael Leeds chronicles the connection between Hudson and Willson as they conquered Hollywood and then the world.

The story explores the repercussions of living a lie, the thin, ugly boundary between love and hate, the cost of unbridled ambition and the shame of growing older in a society that puts a premium on youth. It’s the remarkable true story of two men who in their quest to be somebody, lost themselves.
