NASA Glenn Research Center’s Rainbow Alliance Advisory Group hosted an in-person and live-streamed Pride flag raising ceremony on June 3 in celebration of Pride Month. The event included remarks from Glenn Deputy Director Dawn Schaible and NASA Safety Center Director Harmony Myers, the executive sponsor of the group.

The flag raising offered a time for NASA Glenn LGBTQ+ employees and their allies to come together to celebrate the progress made in the quest for safety, tolerance, acceptance, rights, happiness, and freedom for the LGBTQ+ community.

In her remarks, Schaible highlighted a number of LGBTQ+ milestones, including the 1998 executive order prohibiting the Federal Government from discriminating based on sexual orientation and the 2014 guidance published by NASA for supporting gender transition and affirmation in the workplace.

When asked about the importance of all Glenn employees feeling safe, respected, and valued, Schaible noted, “A large part of NASA’s mission is to inspire the world through discovery,” she said. “Our NASA workforce is inclusive, and we need diverse talents and perspectives to help NASA achieve its missions.”

Glenn’s Rainbow Alliance Advisory Group (RAAG) is a NASA employee resource group (ERG) that supports and advocates for the LGBTQ+ community. The group also represented NASA at Pride in the CLE on June 1.

In 2023, the ERG marched in Pride in the CLE for the very first time, a giant leap forward for the group’s visibility and display of support.

“It’s a wonderful accomplishment for Glenn to march in celebration of LGBTQ+ history and culture,” Jen Pierce, aerospace engineer and RAAG chairperson, said in 2023. “By going out and being visible as members and allies of this group, we build bridges to LGBTQ+ folks and help them see that there’s a place for them here.”🔥
