The Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus (“CGMC”) will present this year’s holiday show “Light, Bright and Gay” on December 14 and 15, as part of its 35th season. The family friendly show is brimming with music that will surely get audience members into the holiday spirit.
Donovan Jones, CGMC Executive Director, shared CGMC’s mission with this year’s concert. “Holiday music has a unique way of bringing people together and creating a sense of warmth and connection,” Jones said. “For many, including those who rely on their chosen families, it’s a chance to share joy and create lasting memories with the people who matter most. At CGMC, we aim to evoke those feelings of belonging and nostalgia, while also celebrating the diversity of love and family in all its forms. Our concerts are an invitation to embrace the magic of the season, together.”
Although the holiday concert is CGMC’s most popular of the year due to its accessible seasonal content, CGMC also wants audiences who experience “Light, Bright and Gay” to gain the knowledge that no matter what happens in the coming years, they will continue to stand proudly and boldly in their identities as members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
“A lot has changed in our world since I started this concert concept,” said Brayton Bollenbacher, CGMC Artistic Director, describing his programming. “As we gear up for a concerning climate for LGBTQ+ individuals, I think our major take-away from this concert is that no matter what happens in our world, we will still be here. We will still be burning bright, proudly being LGBTQ, and keeping the light burning in our community. Now, more than ever, we must continue to find our community through our darkest days.”
The visual elements of this year’s holiday concert will be one of the highlights. “The use of light in this concert is really going to be memorable,” Bollenbacher said. “Not only do we have our lovely choral sound and our campy take on the music, but we also have this cool use of lights that we haven’t used before.”“Light, Bright and Gay” will be held at the Riffe Center’s Davidson Theatre on Saturday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, December 15 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased and additional information found at www.cgmc.com. 🔥
