LGBTQ+ athletes from across the country to compete, connect and celebrate community in Ohio this summer

Columbus will host the Stonewall Sports National Tournament across 10 different sports for thousands of athletes.

Registration is officially open for the 11th Annual Stonewall Sports National Tournament, taking place in Columbus, Ohio from July 17–20, 2025.

This four-day event will bring together thousands of LGBTQ+ athletes and allies from 28 chapter cities nationwide for competition, connection and celebration. Columbus, long recognized as one of the most LGBTQ+-inclusive cities in the United States, will host tournaments across 10 different sports, alongside social events and community engagement opportunities.

The tournament is expected to draw more than 2,500 participants, with games and events held at venues throughout the city, including Berliner Sports Park, Ohio State’s Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC) and other local recreational spaces.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Stonewall Sports community to Columbus and several of our incredible sports facilities,” said Linda Shetina Logan, CEO & President of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. “The LGBTQ+ community is integral to what makes Columbus such a vibrant and welcoming place, and we are proud to share the spirit of bold ideas and relentless optimism that defines our city.”

Second time in Ohio

This year’s event marks the second time Ohio has hosted the Stonewall Sports National Tournament, following Cleveland’s successful turn as host city in 2022. Ohio is now the first state outside of Washington, D.C.—the tournament’s original home—to welcome Nationals more than once.

In a moment when Ohio and many other states are facing a surge of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation, this return to the Buckeye State stands as a powerful reminder that our LGBTQ+ communities are not only present but thriving.

Stonewall Sports was founded in 2010 on the belief that everyone deserves a place to play, belong, and thrive. What began as a single kickball league in Washington, D.C. has since grown into a national network of LGBTQ+ and ally-led leagues committed to inclusion, connection and community-building through sport.

“This year, as our community continues to face deeply concerning legislative and cultural challenges, your presence in Columbus sends a powerful message: we are still here, still joyful, still proud, and stronger together,” said Densil R. Porteous, executive director of Stonewall Columbus. “By bringing your energy, your stories, and your full selves to our city, you help push back against harmful narratives and remind Ohio—and the nation—that LGBTQ+ people are thriving everywhere.”

Registration Details

Athletes can register now at https://stonewallsports.org/national-tournament/sports/. Capacity is limited, and early registration is encouraged. The registration fee includes tournament participation, entry to official social events and exclusive tournament swag. Tournament sports offered this year include kickball, dodgeball, volleyball, pickleball, bocce and more.

For players looking to start their tournament weekend meeting new people while having friendly competition, the “Friday Funday” on July 18 offers the cornhole exhibition, kickball remix, dodgeball showcase for women, transgender and non-binary players, as well as an ultimate frisbee exhibition, a new addition this year.

The tournament is open to all interested participants, with an emphasis on members of the LGBTQ+ community. In the spirit of equity and inclusivity, the tournament offers the Player Assistance Fund, helping to offset registration costs for players who are experiencing financial and economic hardship, so they can still participate.
