On Sunday, March 1, from 1pm – 4pm, Geauga SOGI Support Network (GSSN), the Community Life Collaborative, and the Federated Church Social Justice Advocacy Ministry are co-sponsoring a workshop that explores the intersection of Christianity and LGBTQIA diversity.
The program will be held at the Family Life Center at 16349 Chillicothe Rd., Chagrin Falls, 44023.
The event will begin with a showing of the documentary 1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted a Culture, which follows the story of tireless researchers who trace the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a grave mistranslation of the Bible in 1946.
It chronicles the discovery of never-before-seen archives at Yale University, which unveil astonishing new revelations, and casts significant doubt on any biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice. Featuring commentary from prominent scholars and opposing pastors, including the personal story of the film’s creator, 1946 is challenging, enlightening, and inspiring.

Following the film and a 30-minute break, well-versed facilitators will share compelling stories to expand on the film topic and lead a discussion.
The discussion facilitators are:
- Jessica Peacock M.Div. (she/they), is an award-winning progressive clergy person, professor, and author with extensive experience examining how ancient scripture pertains to gender, sexuality, and one’s concept of God.
- Dana Oleskiewicz M.S. (she/her) is a researcher in cultural foundations at Kent State University, with a concentration in gender studies and health disparities for vulnerable populations.
- Alexander Miller M.A. (he/they) has been a pastor for over 10 years for LGBTQIA+ teens and children’s ministries. His master’s thesis focused on gender theory in the Bible.
This event is free; registration is required at: https://givebutter.com/11T7c2. Donations are appreciated to help defray the cost of the facilitators and the film licensing fee.
