This piece appears in the “Breaking the Silence: Queer Self, Life, and Love in Northeast Ohio” anthology. “Breaking the Silence” is a part of Literary Cleveland’s Amplify Projects series, designed to empower, uplift, and celebrate our many stories and place power into the hands of people and communities, giving them the platform to tell their own stories on their own terms.

A sea of rainbow all around.
My smile growing and growing
with each passing sound.
Pride is finally here.
A line of cars covered in rainbow
slowly move down the street.
A world I love and know.
Pride is finally here.
We can’t be together physically
but feelings are the same;
immense joy and connectivity.
Pride is finally here.
Others start lining the streets.
There’s people here who support us!
Everyone moving to the musical beat.
Pride is finally here.
My community, all here together.
Connected in a time of uncertainty.
I’ll love and defend them forever.
Pride is finally here.
