Introducing the Daisy Gala: Think the Met Gala. With trans models. And in Cleveland.

Sponsored by Margie’s Hope, the trans-centered nonprofit, the red-carpet event promises to be a night to remember.

Monika Veliz wants you to remember: fashion is art too.

“When people talk about art, they talk about paintings and photographs. But what about designers who work hours and hours and hours just to make a little bit of money?” Veliz asked.

In an effort to showcase the art – and hard work – of LGBTQ+ fashion designers, Veliz has helped create the first annual Daisy Gala, which will take place on May 13.

Sponsored by Margie’s Hope, the trans-centered nonprofit for which Veliz serves as President, the red-carpet event promises to be a night to remember.

The Daisy Gala will be held on Saturday, May 13.

Think: the Met Gala. Meets Ohio. Meets LGBTQ+ couture.

The idea for the evening was initially proposed to highlight makers and crafters in the LGBTQ+ community. That concept quickly morphed into a more general fundraiser to help support local trans organizations, particularly given the legislative attacks against trans Ohioans.

“The money that we raise can really help local visibility of LGBTQ+ organizations, especially during Pride season where it costs so much money to rent a table and cover it with pamphlets and brochures and stickers,” Veliz said.

The Daisy Gala is set to feature seven LGBTQ+ designers showcasing their work, which will all be worn by trans models. Local drag luminary Kardi Redd Diamond will provide entertainment and legendary Cleveland dj Zoe Renee Lapin will keep the beats coming.

Performers from Ohio Burlesque and Blackwater Burlesque will showcase their talent at an exclusive afterparty, complete with vendors and food options available all throughout the night.

And make sure you note those words “first annual.”

“This year we are laying the groundwork to build this into a premiere annual event,” Veliz said. “So show up, strut that runway, and know the Daisy Gala is here to stay.” 🔥
