Columbus queer youth choir welcomes audiences to Night Vale with Halloween concert on 10/31

The Columbus Queerscendos celebrates youth ages of 13-17 with all levels of musical experience and currently has seven members.

Come for the music. Stay for the haunting.

The Columbus Queerscendos, the youth ensemble of central Ohio’s premier TTBB vocal organization, the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus, invite audiences to take a trip to Night Vale with them on Halloween.

The youth choir based its Dead Air concert on Welcome to Night Vale, the hit LGBTQ+ supernatural podcast presented as a fictional community radio broadcast from a desert town where conspiracy theories, urban legends and absurd paranormal events are part of everyday life.

“Dead Air is kind of what you’d get if Welcome to Night Vale took place in a haunted house in the middle of the woods,” said CGMC’s Assistant Artistic Director and Youth Ensemble Director Gabriel Gonzales. “It’s spooky, it’s weird, and it’s definitely a little ridiculous in the best way. We’ve got creepy stories, funny moments and a bunch of great Halloween songs so there’s a little something for everyone. We really wanted to create a show that’s fun, unexpected and gives people a chance to just enjoy some good music and have a good time so come dressed in costume!”

Since 1990, CGMC has been an outlet for LGBTQ+ community members who love to sing in a non-auditioned, inclusive environment. The chorus has grown in its more than 35 years to a consistent composition of well over 100 members of multiple sexual orientations and gender identities. It is now the largest TTBB (tenor, baritone, bass vocal range) chorus in Ohio.

The Columbus Queerscendos welcomes youth between the ages of 13 and 17 with all levels of musical experience and currently has seven members. 🔥
